Country Music

Country music is a popular American musical style that began in the rural Southern United States in the 1920s.[1] It takes its roots from Western cowboyand southeastern American folk music. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms and harmonies accompanied by mostly string instruments such as banjoeselectric and acoustic guitarsfiddles such as violins, and harmonicas (Wikipedia)

Ask Dr Love

Love, Imagelove, love…

My students were very imaginative. I asked them to invent a radio programme. A listener calls Doctor Love to ask for advice for his or her love problems. Funny!

You can listen to the radio programmes here.

Charles Dickens

2012  marks the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’s birth. He is one of the greatest English writers of the Victorian period.

Our students had to read Great Expectations, one of his most famous books. He was a prolific writer.

Many of his works have been made into films: Oliver Twist, Bleak House, Scrooge, David Copperfield, etc

If you are interested, you can read more here.

Dickens believed that enriching people’s life with knowledge and enjoyment of the arts was key to building a fair society and creating opportunities.  I agree with him.

Job Interviews

English has become important, let’s say essential, in order to get a job nowadays. 80% of the job offers requiere a knowledge of English.
My students had to make job interviews to a teacher and to a student from La Foia High School. Special thanks to the teachers and students who collaborated with my students.

Oral Presentations

Oral presentations are an excellent way of practising English. It is good to loose embarrassment, to learn to speak in public, to improve your ITC knowledge. In the last weeks, my students from Practical English (1st Bachillerato) and 4th ESO have don a great work! Here you have some photos of some presentations and some more photos of my class, working seriously.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an American celebration. Sometimes we put too much emphasis on promoting other Anglosaxon celebrations, so, for a change, our department decided to explain this festivity to our students.

We saw the TV series Friends: The one with Chandler in the Box, which is set in Thanksgiving time. you might want to watch it. It’s fun!

Here’s is some of the material we used that some colleagues kindly sent me.
