Shall we start the school year with a bit of humour?

La Foia students are very punctual…so they interrupt the BBC reporter to enter the school
It is highly satisfying to publish the following post. I am very proud of La Foia High School students. Their performance on stage was brilliant and I think the audience enjoyed the play Three Promises (a tale adapted from The Canterbury Tales, Penguin Readers).
I would like to thank all the people that helped me with the project: my colleagues from the Department (Emma and Isabel Berenguer), Enri (for her wonderful presentation of the play), Casa de la Cultura, Juan Ma (machining teacher), Chafino (for lending me his great music), Nacho, for helping me with some pieces of medieval music, APA, the mothers of some students who did the costumes of the Sun God and the Moon, etc

Theatre in English: Three Promises |
I would like to congratulate my students from Practical English 1st year of Bachillerato for their involvement in setting up the American Party. Two years ago, we held an English Party, last year it was Scotland’s turn and in 2012 we celebrated an American party.
The objectives were accomplished: to practise English, to learn something from American geography and culture, to taste food from the USA and, of course!, to have fun.
The best way to see what it was like is to watch this homemade video.
If you want to see some photos of cities and landscapes of the USA, click here. The photos were made by Oliver Martínez and the video by Chafino. Thank you both.:-)
And finally, you can watch the photos of NY by the professional photogapher Mike Dumonceau, by clicking here.
The power of music is inexhaustible, also in language learning .
Here you have an English activity with a song by Nirvana: Come As You Are.

Country music is a popular American musical style that began in the rural Southern United States in the 1920s.[1] It takes its roots from Western cowboyand southeastern American folk music. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms and harmonies accompanied by mostly string instruments such as banjoes, electric and acoustic guitars, fiddles such as violins, and harmonicas (Wikipedia)
Here you have an example:
Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus
And the lyrics of the song
Now sing with the Karaoke version.
Love, love, love…
My students were very imaginative. I asked them to invent a radio programme. A listener calls Doctor Love to ask for advice for his or her love problems. Funny!
You can listen to the radio programmes here.

Oral presentations are an excellent way of practising English. It is good to loose embarrassment, to learn to speak in public, to improve your ITC knowledge. In the last weeks, my students from Practical English (1st Bachillerato) and 4th ESO have don a great work! Here you have some photos of some presentations and some more photos of my class, working seriously.
